Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
