The artist has given the entirety of his £25k honor prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the UK's independent music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on mid-October as his new release his work was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function small stages had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight local spots across the UK.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to challenges caused by flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted financial assistance in upgrading facilities and gear that directly benefitted artists and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," the star has stated.
